I ran across this in one of my Yahoo! groups, Wild Harvest, around a question about ear ringing… what causes it and how to stop it. I thought that you might find this pretty interesting– the tie-in with MSG.

———The following is a reply by Jeff Kaplan re “ear-ringing causes” ———–
You are right on the money! Wow, what a detective you are.

Yep, you are correcto mundo about Doritos.
You can add Cheetos, and Fritos to that too.
It reminds me of the movie, “Its a Wonderful Life”. At the end, “Zsu Zsu”
(sp?) hears a bell ring. She says, “My teacher says everytime a bell rings, an
angel gets his wings!”
Jimmy Stewart, holding her, responds, “Thats right. Thats right!”

Perhaps everytime we, or somebody hears ringing in our ears, instead of an
angel getting its wings, we should smell a rat, esp if its accompanied by a
headache.

Good old sneaky food industry people, putting it in our food, under numerous
disguised names, to make the food “taste better” and get us addicted, so we’ll
buy more of it. Kevin Trudeau talked about this extensively on his cd version of “Natural Cures They Don’t Want You To Know About”. Man, whenever I hear that cd series,
I get so fired up!

One of the things he said is that msg makes people obese. I thought of that
the other day when I was driving home, because I noticed a fairly young lad
walking in the opposite direction. He looked mighty roly poly- around 350 plus.
He was eating a bag of chips as he walked (waddled) along. Was it his fault?
Not to me. Did he know any better? No.
Did i feel sorry for him? Sort of.

Its so common see obese people, that it almost doesn’t phase me anymore. I often feel like going up to them and telling them to stop drinking that soda, and eating that burger, and those french fries and chips. But, I don’t.

Now, girls… I am not talking about you! We are here to help each other, and I hope I didn’t put my foot into my mouth. Some of you have lost over 100 pounds. Wow! Some 50, or more. That is really something! Some of you have struggled with weight for a long time, and are doing your best. Keep up what you are doing with the oils and Core Supplements, including Ningxia Red.

Some of you have no time to exercise. OK. Maybe if you jumped on a Rebounder for a couple of minutes every morning, or evening? Maybe if youdrink some of that Holy Tea, it will come out of you, through your colon. Also, walk, like that guy was doing. (Speaking of Holy Tea, I got mine the other day. I made the tea. I drank it. I went #2 about 5 or 6 times before lunch yesterday. My belly was so flat,
it went in the opposite direction. Boy was I hungry. Normally, I “go” about 2
or 3 times a day, at the most. OK, enough about that garbage.)

Kevin Trudeau pointed out that lab rats are injected with msg to make them
obese, so that the scientists conducting the studies can learn more about the
effects of weight on blood sugar.

The most common foods msg is found in are commercial canned soups, and salad dressings, boullion, chips and snack foods of all kinds, and ALL fast food restaurant food, including places like Applebees, and Chilis.
One of the absolute worst places is KFC. This according to Russell Blaylock,
M.D. and author of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills.

Look for the words, autolyzed, hydrolyzed, glutamate, glutamic acid, or
phrases such as “pea protein”, “whey protein”, “corn protein”, etc.
If a pea for example was a whole pea, it would simply be labeled as a pea.

Calling an ingredient “pea protein” indicates that it was hydrolyzed, at least in part, so that glutamic acid is freed up. Glutamic acid is the excitotoxin, just as aspartic acid in aspartame is the excitotoxin, which destroys neurons. The consequence of this may result in any type of neurological “disease”, or seizures, or cluster headaches, or migraine headaches.

According to Russell Blaylock, isolated proteins are harmful. Just as the
body best uses nutrients from whole food, and can become imbalanced from taking
fractionated, or isolated vitamins, this also applies to amino acids. We must
take in our amino acids in their whole form-protein, or in the form that they
are naturally occurring- in fruits and vegetables, nuts, and legumes.

Many vaccines also contain msg. This may be one reason why autism is
skyrocketing. It may not be all due to mercury! According to Dr. Blaylock, excitotoxins kill neurons on the avg of one hour after ingestion. For further information, you can go to: www.truthinlabeling.org

My first inkling of msg toxicity, is that splitting headache, that hits me at night, when I do get it- where it has gotten so bad, that it has woken me up. That hasn’t happened very often, but when it does, it stimulates my male brain into wanting to go after the food company and punch somebody’s lights out. Since I can’t do that, the reality is, I just get very angry. Then I tone my self down to annoyance. Before I get angry, and annoyed, I first go back and think about what I ate that day. Every single time, I remember what it was, “Ah-HA! It was that lousy, rotten salad dressing I had at that restaurant!” To summarize this, I looked in our pantry, and found these foods: Newman’s Own, Light Italian Dressing. One of the ingredients listed: Natural Flavor Classico Fire Roasted Tomato and Garlic Sauce: Spices, Citric acid Hunt’s Garlic and Herb Classic Italian Spaghetti Sauce: citric acid, spices, natural flavor Imagine Organic Beef Flavored Cooking Stock: The words on the label, ought to give this away (beef flavored, and stock): Ingredients listed include beef extract, and natural flavors. Well, don’t blame me for buying these foods, because my wife bought the stuff. She didn’t do it on purpose though, I understand.

However, not to let myself off the hook, I purchased some “organic cat food” at the health food store, with the following ingredient listed: malted barley, vegetable glycerin, and natural flavors. I didn’t read the label, so shame on me! Maybe that is why our cat didn’t like it!

Anyway, I hope this helps anybody stay away from msg. Its not just found in Chinese restaurants. Its everywhere. We can avoid it though. We just have to have our minds turned on, when shopping, or eating out. It seems that anymore, its like walking through a minefield, when it comes to trying to avoid poisons in our food. Then having to answer our critics who complain of our fanaticism.

Well, I don’t really care what anybody may think of my eating habits. I am a
pretty healthy person, and can run circles around any of them. I am not walking
with a walker, or sitting in a wheelchair like a lot of people -even younger
than me. (excluding car accident victims, which is totally different. I have
had many of them as patients, and i feel for them!) Its because I make certain
choices, and they make their own choices.
Jeff

————————————————————————————————————–

Something rather unusual happened for me tonight (or I guess it would be last night since this is now 'morning' technically–yikes)–

I spent today reading and re-reading Pauline Johnson's poem "Ojistoh" so as to present it as an "interpretive reading" at Toastmasters. It is a wildly Victorian melodramatic performance piece if ever there was one. Miss Johnson was born on the Mohawk reserve outside Brantford Ontario in the latter part of the 19th C. Her father was the Mohawk Chief and her mother was British-born. She accrued about 5 years of formal education, but by the time she was twelve she had read all of Scott's poetry, all of Longfellow, most of Shakespeare and a good deal of other "classic" literature. She was mad for "verses".

She toured around giving poetry readings (performances, really) of her own works. She went back and forth across Canada, and back and forth from England for about sixteen years. The last two years of her life she was ill with cancer in Vancouver, where she died. She is buried in Stanley Park.

I had some small familiarity with her because of my family background. Some of my family came from the Brantford area and my Great-Aunt Jean Flatt was a poet (self-published) who admired Pauline's nature poetry. I have her diaries (from about 1919 until 1969). Pauline was more a contemporary of Jean's mother, my great-grandmother. There is some myth in our family, too, that we have Mohawk blood– "country wives" and all that. I think it may just be myth, alas.

I asked after the Toastmasters meeting if anyone had studied Pauline in school. Apparently not. One of the members had seen a program about her on the History channel. Interesting. I remember being interested in her as a child… must have run across her books at my Grandmother's?

In any case, when I came home from the meeting I felt intrigued (the reading had gone very well– I had gotten lots of great feedback) and looked her up. I was startled and elated to find that there is an opera being written about her life and art… by Margaret Atwood.

Here is the poem called "Ojistoh"– read it out loud and have lots of fun 'hamming it up'…

I am Ojistoh, I am she, the wife

Of him whose name breathes bravery and life

And courage to the tribe that calls him chief.
I am Ojistoh, his white star, and he
Is land, and lake, and sky–and soul to me.

Ah! but they hated him, those Huron braves,
Him who had flung their warriors into graves,
Him who had crushed them underneath his heel,
Whose arm was iron, and whose heart was steel
To all–save me, Ojistoh, chosen wife
Of my great Mohawk, white star of his life.

Ah! but they hated him, and councilled long
With subtle witchcraft how to work him wrong;
How to avenge their dead, and strike him where
His pride was highest, and his fame most fair.
Their hearts grew weak as women at his name:
They dared no war-path since my Mohawk came
With ashen bow, and flinten arrow-head
To pierce their craven bodies; but their dead
Must be avenged. Avenged? They dared not walk
In day and meet his deadly tomahawk;
They dared not face his fearless scalping knife;
So–Niyoh![1]–then they thought of me, his wife.

O! evil, evil face of them they sent
With evil Huron speech: "Would I consent
To take of wealth? be queen of all their tribe?
Have wampum ermine?" Back I flung the bribe
Into their teeth, and said, "While I have life
Know this–Ojistoh is the Mohawk's wife."

Wah! how we struggled! But their arms were strong.
They flung me on their pony's back, with thong
Round ankle, wrist, and shoulder. Then upleapt
The one I hated most: his eye he swept
Over my misery, and sneering said,
"Thus, fair Ojistoh, we avenge our dead."

And we two rode, rode as a sea wind-chased,
I, bound with buckskin to his hated waist,
He, sneering, laughing, jeering, while he lashed
The horse to foam, as on and on we dashed.
Plunging through creek and river, bush and trail,
On, on we galloped like a northern gale.
At last, his distant Huron fires aflame
We saw, and nearer, nearer still we came.

I, bound behind him in the captive's place,
Scarcely could see the outline of his face.
I smiled, and laid my cheek against his back:
"Loose thou my hands," I said. "This pace let slack.
Forget we now that thou and I are foes.
I like thee well, and wish to clasp thee close;
I like the courage of thine eye and brow;
I like thee better than my Mohawk now."

He cut the cords; we ceased our maddened haste
I wound my arms about his tawny waist;
My hand crept up the buckskin of his belt;
His knife hilt in my burning palm I felt;
One hand caressed his cheek, the other drew
The weapon softly–"I love you, love you,"
I whispered, "love you as my life."
And–buried in his back his scalping knife.

Ha! how I rode, rode as a sea wind-chased,
Mad with sudden freedom, mad with haste,
Back to my Mohawk and my home. I lashed
That horse to foam, as on and on I dashed.
Plunging thro' creek and river, bush and trail,
On, on I galloped like a northern gale.
And then my distant Mohawk's fires aflame
I saw, as nearer, nearer still I came,
My hands all wet, stained with a life's red dye,
But pure my soul, pure as those stars on high–
"My Mohawk's pure white star, Ojistoh, still am I."

I had a nap this afternoon, which is a very silly thing to do… but I was tired, Judge… and as a result I am staying up way too late.. reminds me of my late mom (who passed last year at this time) who would get up in the middle of the night in her 70s and do all the sorts of things that 'normal folks' do during the daylight hours.

I had a good a profitable day, as far as my on-line work goes (was able to finish up a page for my website– yay). So I rewarded myself by reading a little tosh and silliness on the web. For example, I really didn't know the whole Joni Mitchell-finds-her-longlost-daughter story. Looks like I am only 11 years behind on THAT news lol. Looks like they are now "estranged".

Joni Mitchell has many sterling qualities but she smokes like a fiend and justifies the habit to the hilt. I can hardly breathe just reading about her chain-smoking in her 60s. My lungs are done-in by all that smoking up until I was 43.

Anyhow, I really must go to bed…

Last night my dear husband came home with a 1/2 bar of chocolate (he had consumed the other half). He handed it to me and waited for some endearisms to fall from my lips. I dutifully took a bite and recoiled– but inwardly, I don't want him to STOP bringing home chocolate (like he stopped bringing home flowers when I was negligent about making huge fusses). This chocolate was BiTTER. Ew. Like chewing on a coffee bean. Like accicentally taking a big ol' bite out of your mother's cooking chocolate (yes, my addiction started way back then).

Yes, yes, yes, I know that the darker the chocolate, the healthier, right? This was dark and organic and about 90% cocoa. As they say in the comics, p-tooey. ychh.

So, he went to do his evening thing and I did my evening thing, and the chocolate sat unmolested in its wrapper for hours and hours… an unknown event in this house.

This afternoon I was feeling peckish, looking for something sweet, longing for some real chocolate, smooth and sweet. My eyes lit on my jar of raw Wildflower Honey, local ambrosia like no other honey you have ever tried (sorry, the "girls"– what the beekeeper calls her bees– will not be producing any more like it again until October). Hmm. And because my mind moves fast in such matters, I was suddenly grating (just like mom did with her Baker's Chocolate) the bitter bar into a bowl. Then I took a large tablespoonful (okay, I didn't measure– could have been two) of honey and mixed them together. Now, that was more like it. I also stirred in a little organic peanut butter (about 1/2 teaspoon) and a 1/2 teaspoon of sunflower seeds.

Totally satisfying, delicious, sweet, and probably extremely healthy.

Chlorine is a highly corrosive gas with a pungent odor that is derived from natural sources such as salt (sodium chloride) and produced in mass quantities for industrial use. Chlorine is a building block for PVC plastics (vinyl) and for numerous chemicals, including pesticides, refrigerants, anti-knock compounds, and antifreeze. Dissolved in liquid to form sodium hypochlorite, or bleach, it is widely used as a disinfectant, in bleaching, and to purify public water supplies. Another form, hydrochloric acid, may be used in some toilet bowl cleaners.

Household bleach is a weak sodium hypochlorite solution. Household bleach is the most common cleaner accidentally swallowed by children. Children can also be exposed to dangerous gases when cleaners containing bleach are mixed with other cleaning agents, such as ammonia.

Concern about chlorine exposure also arises from its ability to form more toxic byproducts. Chlorine reacts with organic matter in drinking water to produce trihalomethanes, which may cause cancer and possibly developmental effects. A recent study links children's exposure to one byproduct, nitrogen trichloride, in chlorinated indoor pools to asthma. Chlorine bleaching of paper and the manufacture and incineration of PVC plastic results in the formation of highly toxic dioxins and furans.

Blending Essential Oils & Biz Tips

Issue #1

My Dear!

So happy you could join us for this whirl through the exotic

world of essential oils and the business that many of us get

into when we realize it is to our benefit to save on the

pure essential oils that we love! (If you are NOT in the

business, you still belong here! This ezine is for everyone

who LOVES oils and wants to learn more about their multiplicity

of uses.)

If you are like me, you already have a wealth of stuff coming at

you every day by email and sometimes you feel overwhelmed. For

that reason alone, DiffusingLife2 will be delivered only every

20 days (or three weeks)… I don't want anybody to unsubscribe

because they are burnt out on too much of a good thing

Okay, let's get right into it!

I am going to start each issue with a glossary of words you will

come across lots in these ezines.I think it might be useful to 'file'

this issue, or 'star' it in your email– 'bookmark' or favortize it

somehow so that you can pull it up for handy referral in the weeks

ahead.

AROMATHERAPY: the art of treating with essential oils

EODR: "Essential Oils Desk Reference" Third Edition, compiled by

Essential Science Publishing. This book is over 500 pgs. of

information about essential oils: history, chemistry, and health

applications. Get it from Essential Science Publishing, Amazon, or

EBay. You might also find it in your local library or bookstore.

Also available on CD-ROM and in a pocket size.

ORGANIC: the plants from which the essential oils are derived are

organically farmed with no unnatural fertilizers,

herbicides or pesticides added to the soil.

PURE: In terms of essential oils, I see "pure" as meaning there are

no additives to enhance the fragrance and no petrochemical solvents

have been used in the distilling process. To me, 'pure' means

pretty close to the way God made the essential oil that forms the

'blood of the plant' it would normally flow through.

YLEO: Young Living Essential Oils, the Utah-based essential oils

company founded by D. Gary Young. YLEO operates through multi-level

at different levels of commitment (Customer; Preferred Customer; or

Distributor). If you enroll as a Distributor, you purchase one of

the START LIVING kits and from thereon in have a choice of either

taking up the Business Opportunity (i.e., selling YLEO products) or

buying your YLEO products for personal use at wholesale cost. To

maintain your Distributorship advantage, you need only purchase $50

of product a year after purchasing the original START LIVING kit.

You will find all aspects of the YLEO business and product lines at

SPOONS: Buy a set of accurate kitchen-type measuring spoons. I'm

Canadian, so I'm pretty much 'literate' in either metric or imperial

measurements and do tend to interchange them when I'm putting

together my ezine 'formulas'. Generally, a teaspoon is 5 ml or .2oz

and a tablespoon (T) is 3X that size, or 15 ml (1/2 an ounce).

BOTTLES: I use clean, dark glass bottles (brown or green) to mix

my massage oils in. I like to save the bottles from the nut and

seed oils I buy from the health food store (example:The Spectrum

oils or Living Harvest Hemp Oil). These are highly nutritious oils

that you and your family will benefit from in your food prep, so

don't skimp and buy cheap oils (and, no, I'm not getting an

affiliate 'cut' here). Glass bottles are the safest options when it

comes to essential oils storage because they do not leach any

questionable chemicals when in contact with oils. Unlike plastic

recycling, which produces toxic chemicals, glass recycling is

more environmentally friendly. DARK glass tends to keep out the

light that can break the oils down more quickly. In general,

properly-stored essential oils will 'keep' for a very long time

without fear of rancidity. Precious essential oils found in King

Tut's tomb were over 3,000 years old!

You can buy bottles of at http://diffusinglife.com and other

places. Buy round bottles that can be rolled between your hands.

Most bottles have a dropper in the lid.

DROPPERS: You can buy fancy droppers, but I generally just go for

quantity and buy the bulk droppers available through diffusinglife.

com. Use a different dropper for each oil so as not to risk having

residues of one oil entering your other oils. Use a small tag on

the upper portion of the dropper to label it.

There are your basics! You're ready to go!

VARIOUS "CARRIERS" FOR THE ESSENTIAL OIL BLENDS:

Here I just say "EXPERIMENT" and see what oils you like the most.

Here are some that I use on a regular basis for massage oil base:

Hemp Seed Oil (the best)

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (especially nice– cooling– in summer)

Sesame Oil (a good quality like Spectrum– warming in the winter)

Sweet Almond Oil

Shea Butter (pricey but lovely)

Avocado (fresh and mashed– use immediately)

There are a number of exotic and everyday oils out there to sample.

Why don't you tell me which ones you really like and I'll include

your review in my blog at http://diffusinglife2.blogspot.com

Other things you can "blend" with the essential oils for cosmetic

and health reasons include:

Epsom Salts (10-20 drops of essential oil in your bath)

Sugars (for scrubs)

And, of course, there is the whole realm of using essential oils

for cooking. We will certainly look at 'culinary blending' in

future issues of this ezine.

——————————————————————–

So, what do you think?

Have I overwhelmed you already with the possibilities?

Don't forget– you will only get an ezine every 20 days. I hope

that will give you ample time to experiment and find ways of using

the oils that work for you and your family!

——————————————————————–

OILY BIZ TIP #1- BE YOUR OWN BOSS

——————————————————————–

I want you to know right off the bat that I am not interested in

'pushing' my particular MLM, but I DO know that there are ample

opportunities to 'blend' the right MLM in with other 'streams of

income'. If you are just exploring the stay-at-home-business

opps out there (and there would appear to be gazillions), pick a

company that is not going to DICTATE what you can or cannot do in

your OWN internet business. If you are setting out to be your own

boss, then, BE YOUR OWN BOSS… don't get snagged up with 'old

style' ways of doing things that go against your needs for

discernment, ethics, or general comfort and respect.

——————————————————————–
